Since we moved to the east coast, and, more strikingly, to the country a year ago, I have noticed certain things that I prefer about the various modes of living:
What I prefer about Country Life:
The food is farm fresh. It is really easy to get local, organic produce, eggs, dairy, meats, etc.
Our beach is so private and functional.
No one locks anything, ever (low crime)
People leave their cars running when they run into the store!
People help each other
The song birds
You get to know everyone
Almost never a line in a store (except right before a big storm)
What I prefer about City Life:
Trader Joe's close by
Restaurants that are reasonably priced
Better prices on pretty much everything
Much easier to travel or have people come visit
Museums
Cell phone coverage
Contractors (electricians, plumbers, etc. call you back and show up)
Trash pickup (we haul our own trash here)
No ticks (Lyme Disease is a big thing here)
What I prefer about the East Coast:
Fall!
It reminds me of where I grew up
The Trees, the grass, the green of it all
The kids learning about seasons
All the beautiful things that grow here
How the Lord waters the earth so I don't have to (rain!)
No Santa Ana winds (or the fires that go with them)
No earthquakes (although, we are the ONLY people out here with earthquake insurance, because you never know!)
I am enjoying the hard working lifestyle - working the farm, hauling firewood, etc.
What I prefer about the West Coast (specifically southern California):
Fresh organic produce in the winter
The Wild Animal Park, SeaWorld, Legoland, The San Diego Zoo, Disneyland
Much more Christian friendly
Much more conservative (politically)
